Job Description: Sets Build Assistant for Christian Youth Theater Company

Position Title: Production Coordinator Assistant
Reports To: Production Coordinator
Location: Audience of One Youth Theater
Status: Part-Time Contract

Position Summary:

The Production Coordinator Assistant supports the Production Coordinator and Production Teams in the construction, painting, and assembly of stage sets for theater productions. This role involves hands-on work in building and managing set elements, assisting with the technical and creative aspects of set design, and helping ensure the smooth transition of set pieces during performances. The ideal candidate will have basic carpentry skills, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to work in a collaborative, faith-based environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set Construction:

    • Assist in building and assembling set pieces according to the Production Coordinator’s plans and instructions.

    • Use basic carpentry tools to cut, measure, and assemble materials like wood, metal, and foam to create set elements.

    • Ensure the stability and safety of all constructed sets for tech rehearsals and performances.

  • Painting and Finishing:

    • Help with painting and finishing set pieces, including backdrops, props, and scenery.

    • Follow design specifications to ensure that colors, textures, and styles align with the artistic vision of the production.

  • Set Installation and Striking:

    • Assist in the installation of set pieces on stage during technical rehearsals and before performances.

    • Help with the striking (taking down) of sets after performances, ensuring that all materials are safely stored or disposed of as needed.

  • Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with the Set Designer, Production Coordinator, and other technical staff to ensure the smooth execution of set changes.

    • Communicate effectively with the crew to coordinate set changes during rehearsals and performances.

  • Safety and Maintenance:

    • Ensure that all construction work is done safely, following relevant guidelines and protocols.

    • Perform regular maintenance on set pieces throughout the production run to ensure they remain in good condition.

  • Christian Mentorship and Team Support:

    • Encourage young performers and crew members by reflecting Christian values in all interactions.

    • Create a welcoming and positive environment for volunteers and other team members.

 

Qualifications:

  • Basic carpentry skills, including experience with tools such as saws, drills, hammers, and other hand or power tools.

  • Previous experience in set construction, stagecraft, or technical theater is preferred but not required.

  • Ability to follow set design plans and execute tasks efficiently.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a heart for volunteers.

  • A commitment to upholding Christian values and creating a faith-based environment in all areas of work.

  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy set pieces and work on ladders or scaffolding when necessary.

  • Flexibility to work days, evenings and weekends, especially during tech weeks and performances.

 

Work Schedule:

  • Must be available for set construction during production periods, with flexible hours depending on the production schedule.

  • Requires availability during tech rehearsals, performances, and strike days.

 

Compensation:

Job Description: Choreographer for Christian Youth Theater Company

Position Title: Choreographer for Spring 2025 Session, January-May
Reports To: Executive Artistic Director
Location: Audience of One Youth Theater
Status: Part-Time Contract

Audience of One Youth Theater is a Christian youth theater company dedicated to nurturing young performers in a faith-based, creative environment. Our mission is to inspire, educate, and encourage young artists to develop their talents while glorifying God through the performing arts. We believe in fostering creativity, building confidence, and promoting teamwork through engaging and high-quality theater productions.

Position Summary:

The Choreographer will be responsible for designing, teaching, and implementing choreography for youth theater productions. This individual will work closely with the Director and Music Director to ensure that the choreography aligns with the artistic vision of the show and reflects the values of the theater. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with young performers, an understanding of Christian principles, and the ability to create dance routines that suit performers of varying skill levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Choreography Design:

    • Develop original choreography for musical theater productions, considering the skill levels of the young cast.

    • Collaborate with the Director and Music Director to ensure the choreography complements the overall vision of the show.

    • Adapt choreography as needed to accommodate performers' abilities and ensure safety.

  • Rehearsal and Instruction:

    • Lead dance rehearsals, teaching choreography to the cast in a supportive, encouraging manner.

    • Break down complex routines into manageable steps for young performers, ensuring all participants feel confident and capable.

    • Provide one-on-one coaching as needed to help individual performers improve their dance skills.

  • Production Support:

    • Assist with casting by evaluating performers' dance abilities during auditions.

    • Attend production meetings to coordinate with the broader creative team.

    • Be available for tech rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances to refine and adjust choreography as needed.

  • Christian Mentorship:

    • Serve as a positive role model, encouraging young performers to express their creativity while reflecting Christian values.

    • Create an inclusive, faith-based rehearsal environment where each child is valued and supported.

    • Participate in prayer, devotionals, or other faith-building activities during rehearsals as appropriate.

 

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a choreographer, preferably with youth or in educational settings.

  • Strong knowledge of various dance styles (e.g., jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, contemporary) relevant to musical theater.

  • Passion for teaching and mentoring young performers.

  • Ability to collaborate with a creative team and adapt choreography to meet artistic and practical needs.

  • Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and faith-based learning environment.

  • Understanding of Christian values and the ability to integrate these into the teaching and rehearsal process.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Degree or pursuance of a Degree in Dance, Performing Arts, or equivalent experience preferred but not required.

 

Work Schedule:

  • The position requires availability during rehearsals, which include evenings and weekends.

  • Additional time will be required for production meetings, tech week, and performances.

 

Compensation:
